What’s keeping you from your mat?

downward dog 2Between studying about yoga, going to yoga practice and my home yoga practice, I’m enjoying my “all yoga, all the time” experience. But this intensity has taken its toll. My left shoulder is acting strange. My knees are stiff. Sometimes I don’t get in my home practice.

Andrea Leber is a health and wellness writer plus yoga guide publisher. Her blog post changed my thoughts and inspired me to care more about my home practice.

My old thinking was an all or nothing attitude. Why bother to practice if I couldn’t devote an hour or if I didn’t feel strong enough to do standing, seated and balance poses with a couple of sun salutations thrown in? Because yoga is a discipline and no movement goes to waste.

Andrea’s post shows me there’s always a way to do yoga. And Christine, our Ayruveda teacher, says: “Your mind controls your body. Make up your mind and your body must follow.”

So, I’m on record here today saying for the next 30 days, I will spend time each day on my yoga mat. I promise to report back.

What keeps you from your mat?

I think too much and do not enough.

Oh Colette – Love your honesty! It’s going to be a challenge for me to make this 30-day practice work but I hope by then it will be a habit. I’m on day 2 and so far, so good.
